Hewlett-Packard (HPQ) up on breakup news muddle

Hewlett-Packard Co. (NYSE: HPQ) shares rose 1.1% to $16.79 following conflicting news reports on Tuesday about whether H-P’s board was studying a breakup of the computer company. A report by Quartz on Tuesday said yes and a report by All Things Digital said no. That came on the heels of Dell Inc.’s announcement that it had agreed to a buyout. Share volume was one million, compared to an all-day average of 5.7 million
